Thirteen-Lined Ground Squirrel

.
We don't see these guys as often as the Richardson's, they don't tend to colonize near people.  But they are awfully cool!  Sometimes when I first see them, I think they are wee lizards, the way they put their little heads down and scuttle along!

Yeah, just like that!

Of course, they stand up too.  They're probably only about half the size of a Richardson's, and blend in with the grass really well!

Look at those teeny-tiny little forelegs!

I'd love to see these squirrels, they look so cute and the stripes are awesome.

  2. Excellent. We have little to see in the east other than the Eastern Chipmunk.

  3. They are cool little guys! We've got the chipmunks too, but I seem to see these little stripy dudes more than the chipmunks, though I would have assumed the chipmunks to be more common!

  4. Oh my gosh....soooo cute! We don't have these little critters down here. Matty is standing next to me waiting for his bus, and I showed him this little fellow and he flipped. We both love the design in his stripes...very cool.
